Second Quarter Technology

This year in technology has been kind of fun. Most technology classes are extremely boring, but we did a couple of fun things this quarter. I liked doing all the different projects, especially the Excel Color Picture project. Even though it was kind of fun, I would have liked it if we did more complex things because I knew most of the things we did. Also, I really didn't like how we did the vocabulary. I think that the vocab should have been on a piece of paper and we should have had to type it on a Word Document so that we could practice our typing at the same time. Overall, this class was pretty fun.

Hello

Hello I am a giraffe and my name is something but I don't remember. I paint toast on sunny Saturday afternoons while I eat alpacas. When the Christmas trees are blue, that means its time for wrestling hippos. The hippo is big. I am big too, especially with my over-sized neck that I hit trees with. I also like to eat pizza flavored M&Ms because they taste like chicken and microwaves. I especially like the microwave flavored M&Ms because it tastes all toasty. There is also Poptarts that are flavored like fish and I throw them at people. For some reason, people like to throw dolphins at me. They are not nice. I also like to hang out with my llamacorns. They are the bomb.

Beliefs

I think that both of these statements are reasonable, but the U.S. statement makes more sense. I believe that the U.S. statement is more reasonable because everyone can be special in different ways. The Europe statement is also reasonable because people may believe that everyone is the same, so you cannot get made fun of. I do believe that this is how it is. The U.S. wants people to feel like this because if someone tells you something, then you can push it aside because you know you're special. Europe wants people to feel like this because if someone tells  you something about you like how you are different or weird or something, then you can know that everyone's the same.

Basketball

I am on the basketball team this year. We have practiced for a little over a month, and our first game is tonight. Everyone on the team is a little bit worried, because there is some bad weather that may get our game canceled. We are all excited so we hope that the weather can stay clear long enough for our game to start. Tonight we are playing Herky, and hopefully the 7th and 8th grade teams will both win. We have 14 people on our team, so we can always get a break when we need it so that we can go back out and play. I'm not nervous for the game because I know everyone will do good. We just got our uniforms yesterday, so everyone is still excited.

Seven Doors

I stood in front of seven identical doors. They all went to different places, but I couldn't be sure where each one went. I had to decide which door to enter. I walked up to the second door from the left. I then slowly turned the knob. My eyes were closed as I entered the door. When I opened my eyes, I saw a huge building that resembled a castle. I had chose the door of Hogwarts. It was actually kind of funny, because it was a school of wizards or whatever they did there. I am not a wizard, so I did not enter the building. I just stood outside and looked around. It was nothing special, so I decided to take a nap.

Memory Bottle

I would bottle up the high school state cross country meet from this year. I would open it a lot because it was so much fun. Coach Thurman took 10 of the middle school cross country girls to Jefferson City, where the state meet was. We had to be on the bus by 7:00 am, so a lot of people were sleeping on the way up there. The bus ride up there was kinda fun. When we got there, there were thousands of people. We watched the class 3 boys, which is what Festus is in. One of our juniors got 1st place individually, and he did really good. The boys team got 2nd overall, only by a couple points. Then we watched the class 3 girls, and we had 4 all-staters. One of our girls got 2nd individually. The girls team got 2nd overall, too. We left the meet, and stopped to eat at Colton Steak House. We sat in 2 tables of 5, and we goofed off. We took rolls on the bus from the restaurant. At first we tried to sleep on the bus, but then everybody got wild. The bus ride home was one of the most fun parts. We were all mad when we got home because we were having fun on the bus. Everybody wished we could do that again, but we can't until next year. Next year, the eight graders won't be there, so it will be different people. When I uncork it, it will be laughing and goofing off and really fun. I wish we could do that again with the same people.

State Cup

In August of 2012, my soccer team had just starting practicing again. We had one goal in mind: to win Missouri State Cup in June of 2013. We worked really hard during the months before Cup. Almost everyone was throwing up at practice because of everything we had to do. Every Sunday, we had a conditioning practice for 2 hours. A typical workout on Sunday practices would be a 3-mile timed run, then a 1.5 mile run, then 50 push ups and 50 v-ups, followed by 20 minutes of core, 20 minutes of cardio, then running stairs, and finally a 2 lap cool down and 50 more push ups and v-ups. Sunday practices were really hard, but they got our team to one of the best conditioned teams in the state. We did Sunday practices as well as practices on Tuesday and Thursday and sometimes Mondays from August to June. When it was finally Cup, we went to Springfield ready to win. We won all three of our pool games, so we came back the next weekend for the semis and finals. We won 2-1 in the semis, and that was the only goal we allowed the whole Cup. We played the finals the next day, and it was 0-0 at halftime. We were determined to win, and with less than 10 minutes left, we scored. We held on and won.

Technology Changes

Technology has changed dramatically over the course of 8 years. The difference is that in 2005, all of the people at the meeting were just watching, while in 2013 most of the people at the meeting were using iPads, iPhones, cameras, and other electronic devices to record what was going on. The world is different with technology because many new companies are appearing and many companies are making new and better devices. People experience events very differently now because instead of just watching and writing about the event, people are taking photos, videos, and recording sound. I think the new technology is a good change because people 20 years from now can look at pictures and videos and they will know exactly what was going. People can also listen to the voice recordings from years before then to know exactly what was said at important events, instead of reading someone's writing about what they saw and heard because people can't write down everything that was happening.

Dear Mrs. DeBolt:

My name is Jenna and I am in 7th grade, 2nd hour technology class. I play basketball, softball, and soccer. Soccer is my favorite sport, and this past summer my team won Missouri State Cup. I also do cross country for Festus. Cross Country is my least favorite sport I do, but its still fun sometimes. I am planning on playing basketball for Festus, and I am a point guard. I like playing point guard because I get to shoot a lot.

Besides sports, I like hunting and fishing. I have a Diamond Compound Bow, and it shoots really smooth. My bow is camouflage obviously, and it is about 35 pounds to pull back. I can hunt and fish at my house, because i don't live in the city limits. I like to fish in the pond behind my house. There are a couple different kinds of fish in the pond, such as blue gill, bass, and catfish. I usually catch blue gills the most.

I have had a pretty good experience with computers. I am pretty fast at typing, and typing is pretty fun, too. I also like to edit things on computers, or fix things on computers. I am really good with computers, so a lot of stuff is pretty easy. I like to make power points and type Word Documents, and what kid wouldn't like to go on Paint. I really liked technology class in elementary, but I hated it in the intermediate. I like this class so far, especially just typing things. Hopefully this class will be a fun quarter.

Sincerely,

Jenna Oetting

What the Prisoner Needed

A couple of weeks ago, I saw my friend from grade school. He was being arrested and shoved into a police car.  I saw on the news that he had murdered someone. He didn't seem like the guy who would kill someone. I've known him for many years, and he would never hurt anyone at all. He has already been sentenced to 20 years in prison. On Sunday, I received a letter from him. He said "There's something I need that only you can get for me." I was very confused. So I wrote him back and asked what it was he needed. He wouldn't tell me what he needed, but he needed whatever it was. But I couldn't get whatever he needed to him if I didn't know what it was.
