Memory Bottle

I would bottle up the high school state cross country meet from this year. I would open it a lot because it was so much fun. Coach Thurman took 10 of the middle school cross country girls to Jefferson City, where the state meet was. We had to be on the bus by 7:00 am, so a lot of people were sleeping on the way up there. The bus ride up there was kinda fun. When we got there, there were thousands of people. We watched the class 3 boys, which is what Festus is in. One of our juniors got 1st place individually, and he did really good. The boys team got 2nd overall, only by a couple points. Then we watched the class 3 girls, and we had 4 all-staters. One of our girls got 2nd individually. The girls team got 2nd overall, too. We left the meet, and stopped to eat at Colton Steak House. We sat in 2 tables of 5, and we goofed off. We took rolls on the bus from the restaurant. At first we tried to sleep on the bus, but then everybody got wild. The bus ride home was one of the most fun parts. We were all mad when we got home because we were having fun on the bus. Everybody wished we could do that again, but we can't until next year. Next year, the eight graders won't be there, so it will be different people. When I uncork it, it will be laughing and goofing off and really fun. I wish we could do that again with the same people.

State Cup

In August of 2012, my soccer team had just starting practicing again. We had one goal in mind: to win Missouri State Cup in June of 2013. We worked really hard during the months before Cup. Almost everyone was throwing up at practice because of everything we had to do. Every Sunday, we had a conditioning practice for 2 hours. A typical workout on Sunday practices would be a 3-mile timed run, then a 1.5 mile run, then 50 push ups and 50 v-ups, followed by 20 minutes of core, 20 minutes of cardio, then running stairs, and finally a 2 lap cool down and 50 more push ups and v-ups. Sunday practices were really hard, but they got our team to one of the best conditioned teams in the state. We did Sunday practices as well as practices on Tuesday and Thursday and sometimes Mondays from August to June. When it was finally Cup, we went to Springfield ready to win. We won all three of our pool games, so we came back the next weekend for the semis and finals. We won 2-1 in the semis, and that was the only goal we allowed the whole Cup. We played the finals the next day, and it was 0-0 at halftime. We were determined to win, and with less than 10 minutes left, we scored. We held on and won.

Technology Changes

Technology has changed dramatically over the course of 8 years. The difference is that in 2005, all of the people at the meeting were just watching, while in 2013 most of the people at the meeting were using iPads, iPhones, cameras, and other electronic devices to record what was going on. The world is different with technology because many new companies are appearing and many companies are making new and better devices. People experience events very differently now because instead of just watching and writing about the event, people are taking photos, videos, and recording sound. I think the new technology is a good change because people 20 years from now can look at pictures and videos and they will know exactly what was going. People can also listen to the voice recordings from years before then to know exactly what was said at important events, instead of reading someone's writing about what they saw and heard because people can't write down everything that was happening.
